Dog of peace

For security purpose we were advised to get a dog. We didn't want a huge, ferocious beast, so we got this one. Her name is Tomar. She is 18 months and she is known for her bark. Except ,she hasn't barked yet because she still thinks that terrible mistake happened that she somehow ended up in our garden. So she keep waiting at the gate for her owner to come back. She is very smart and confident. We are trying to befriend her. If anyone has suggestions how to win dog's trust, I would love to hear.
