Boy, a baker's apprentice, is tending a fire. He is holding a flower in his mouth. In this part of the world, people love flowers, and often they would hold a flowers in their hand, just to smell it once in a while. Because of many years of war, most people are still poor and don't have much luxuries. So, perhaps, a flower would be for them as something special; something to treasure.

I just looked at your Afganistan series. What a beautiful series! How did you end up in Afganistan? Not a tipical holiday destination....

@Yvon: Thank you, Yvon. My husband and I are working with NGO on the NW of Afghanistan, doing water projects. We are drilling water wells in the villages where there is no water.
What a great picture and story to go with. Perhaps sometimes it takes dire situations to stop and smell the roses.
